VoIP Router

You probably connect to the internet using a broadband router.

And while you can probably continue to use this router with your VoIP provider, there are a few reasons why you might wish to upgrade to a VoIP router.

The difference between your standard router and a VoIP broadband router is that the later can prioritize the data packages that contain VoIP. What this means is that with a VoIP router you can browse the internet, use email and it won't interfere with your call.

This may not be an issue for the home user but you can see the benefit for business users of VoIP.

Some VoIP routers also have an endpoint feature. Which in effect means (in theory) that if the VoIP service is unavailable you can use the analog phone system.

Check with your VoIP provider before buy a router to ensure it is compatible with their system.

As with most things these days, you can get a wireless VoIP router.

They themselves are not wireless but they take the signal from your broadband modem and broadcast this wirelessly to your other devices.
